“Can we say any swearing? F… this s…!”, yelled singer Enrico Minelli, from the band Cruz, winner of the Update or Die contest, which took place this Thursday (27) at Livraria Cultura in Shopping Bourbon. The band packed the venue with fans and will kick-start the SWU Music and Arts Festival 2011 on November 12.
Next to two other bands—Os Imitáveis and Tipo Uísque—, Cruz beat its adversaries unanimously: all the five votes of the jury went to the band. “I saw the diversity of the festival within these three bands that presented here today. All of them have the UoD seal of quality”, said Gustavo Giglio, one of the people responsible for Update or Die. Although the other two bands also had high standards, Cruz supremacy was undoubtable. After playing a handful of shows at SXSW, Cruz took a ride around Austin and performed “Pride and Joy” by Stevie Ray Vaughn.
